Pecan Grove Campground
Lake Village, Arkansas
105 RV Sites
Pecan Grove Campground in Lake Village, Arkansas, is a lakeside fishing and family retreat on Lake Chicot — Arkansas's largest natural lake and the largest oxbow lake in North America, in Chicot County's Arkansas Delta at the Mississippi River. The campground's boat dock access to Lake Chicot, the soul-restoring fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bream, and catfish in the oxbow's 21 miles of still water, and the slow, deliberate pace of the Delta landscape that surrounds Lake Village give Pecan Grove the specific character of an Arkansas oxbow lake fishing camp that the national park and mountain resort camping experience cannot replicate — a place where the fishing is its own reason for being and the lake's natural productivity and the Delta's agricultural horizon sustain the contemplative quality that the campground specifically describes as good for your soul.
Boat dock access, RV sites, and tent camping give Pecan Grove the practical fishing camp infrastructure for multi-day Lake Chicot stays — the on-site dock eliminates the boat ramp logistics that public access fishing camps require, and the campground's Lake Village position adjacent to the oxbow's northern reach gives guests the immediate morning launch capability that serious crappie fishing specifically benefits from in the pre-dawn hours when the oxbow's clear water gives crappie the low-light feeding conditions that produce the largest fish. Families and friends without boats find the dock fishing and the lakeshore relaxation self-sufficient. Pets are welcome.
Lake Chicot is a 5,000-acre oxbow lake formed when the Mississippi River changed its course and abandoned this meander loop in the geological past — a crescent-shaped lake 21 miles long and up to one mile wide whose still, warm water and the flooded timber structure of its margins sustain the warm-water fishery that Chicot County fishing guides and tournament anglers consistently describe as among the most productive oxbow bass and crappie lakes in the Arkansas Delta. Lake Chicot State Park on the lake's southeastern shore provides the public swimming, cabin, and camping access that supplements the private resort infrastructure on the lake's northern end near Lake Village.
The Arkansas Delta, surrounding Lake Village in Chicot County at the lowest elevation point in Arkansas, is one of the most historically significant and most musically generative landscapes in the American South — a flat, alluvial river flood plain whose plantation agriculture, the Great Migration's social history, and the Delta blues tradition that originated in the cotton field communities of the Mississippi River lowlands give the region the cultural depth that the Route 61 Music Museum in Leland, Mississippi, 20 miles east across the river, specifically documents in the Mississippi Delta's companion landscape to the Arkansas side of the river.
Pecan Grove Campground serves guests year-round in Chicot County's Delta climate, where the spring crappie spawn from March through May and the fall bass feeding season from September through November represent the two most productive fishing periods on Lake Chicot, and the mild Delta winters sustain the snowbird and extended-stay market from the northern states and the Ozarks who make the Lake Chicot area a winter fishing base. The Mississippi River, one mile east of Lake Village, can be accessed by a short drive to the Great River Road's scenic overlooks in the Arkansas Great River Road National Scenic Byway that parallels the river through the Delta from the Missouri border to the Louisiana line. Reserve sites ahead for the spring crappie season when Lake Chicot's tournament fishing calendar fills the Chicot County lakeside accommodation.
